NeedsRealityPossibility

I’m Mitchell Galavan. I connect customer needs, business goals, and technical possibilities to product direction and detailed design. I help teams across functions agree on what matters, stay focused on the objective, and carry that direction through to the experience people use. My work spans consumer startups, global platforms, and industry collaboration.

At Google, I lead UX across sign-in, account protection, and recovery—including passkeys, Google Authenticator, and two-step verification. I help shape the direction across these experiences, connecting product objectives with the details that help people safely access their accounts.

How I lead

Make the work clearer
and help people go further

Exercise judgment

Frame the problem, examine the tradeoffs, and stay close to the experience. In security, the right friction protects people without unnecessarily excluding them.

Establish direction

I introduced UX briefs with sign-off on what a change should accomplish. I bring UX into policy and product-strategy decisions, and drive Papercuts auditing to catch everyday experience problems.

Build deep expertise

I mentor designers on security, authentication, access, safety, and trust. Through onboarding, reviews, and shared guidance, I help them build domain expertise and the judgment to lead complex work.

About me

Design the experience
and understand the system

I connect what people need with how a product actually works. That means understanding the screens, the rules behind them, and the choices a team needs to make. I help teams agree on the problem, work through the tradeoffs, and turn those decisions into experiences people can trust.

At Google, my work spans authentication, sign-in, account recovery, and account health. Through FIDO, I bring experts across companies together to make signing in safer and easier.

Earlier, I helped design the core experience behind NBA Top Shot, a new way for fans to collect and connect with the game. At Mogo, I designed financial experiences. That range keeps my work grounded in both product strategy and craft.

I'm pursuing an Executive MBA at Quantic, with expected completion in April 2027.
